The building safety regime has undergone a fundamental change – and one of its new core pillars is competence. The new building safety Principal Designers have a crucial role in construction projects, and are subject to legal obligations around their competence and their part in designing and delivering buildings that are safe for the people who use them.
These changes came into force in late 2023, impacting how architects and designers are appointed, with new obligations placed on the clients who instruct them too.
